Getting Started
Download the App:
Visit the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for “Australian Taxation Office.”
Tap “Install” to download and install the app on your device.
Link Your myGov Account:
Open the app and log in using your myGov credentials. Ensure your myGov account is linked to the ATO for a personalized experience.
Follow the prompts to set up secure login using your device’s security features, such as face recognition or fingerprint ID.
Navigating the App
Home Screen Overview:
After logging in, the home screen provides an overview of your tax and superannuation details. From here, you can access different sections of the app, including your tax return, super balance, and various tools.
Tracking Your Tax Return:
Tap on “Track My Tax Return” to view the progress of your 2023-24 tax return. Here, you can check prefilled information, monitor the status, and see the final outcome once processed.
Managing Lodgments and Payments:
Under “Lodgments & Payments,” you can view due dates for lodgments and payments in real-time. If action is required, the app provides a direct link to ATO Online, where you can complete your lodgment or payment.
Superannuation Management:
Access the “Super” section to get an overview of your superannuation accounts and balance. You can also view your employment income and super contributions made by your employers.
Viewing Tax Accounts:
In the “Tax Accounts” section, you can view your tax accounts, see transaction details, create payment plans, and make payments directly through the app.
Managing Personal and Business Details:
Check your personal information, business details (if you’re a sole trader), and registered agent’s information in the “Personal & Business Details” section. You can update these details as necessary.
Using Popular Tools
myDeductions:
Record your work-related expenses, and if you’re a sole trader, also track your income. At tax time, you can easily upload these records to your tax return or share them with your tax agent.
To start using myDeductions, go to the “Tools” section and select “myDeductions.” Follow the prompts to add expenses or income.
Tax Withheld Calculator:
Calculate the amount of tax to withhold from salary and wage payments. Access this tool in the “Tools” section, select “Tax Withheld Calculator,” and enter the necessary details to get an accurate calculation.
ABN Lookup:
Search for an Australian Business Number (ABN) to verify the registration details of businesses. You can find this tool under the “Tools” section.
Business Performance Check:
Compare your business’s performance with others in your industry using the latest small business benchmarks. This tool is located in the “Tools” section and is particularly useful for sole traders and small business owners.
Security and Privacy
Secure Login:
For added security, ensure you have set up biometric login (Face ID or Fingerprint ID) through the app’s settings. This feature adds an extra layer of protection to your account.
Managing Notifications:
