Choose Your Faction: At the start of the game, each player selects a faction. Each faction has its own unique abilities, advantages, and requirements for building and expanding. Some factions may be better suited for certain strategies, so consider how their powers align with your playstyle. Set Up the Game Board: The game board consists of a map made up of different terrain types (such as mountains, lakes, forests, and plains). Each faction has its own preferred terrain types, so choose your expansion points carefully. Players begin with their home base on the board, and their goal is to expand into other areas to gain control of valuable land. Terraform the Land: One of the core mechanics of Terra Mystica is terraforming. You can transform the terrain to make it more suitable for your faction’s buildings. For example, a forest may need to be turned into a plain before you can build certain structures. Managing your resources effectively is key to expanding and building on new land. Build Structures: Players can construct various buildings such as temples, trading posts, and cities. Each building type provides different benefits, such as income, resources, or victory points. Building cities is a significant part of the game, as cities provide large bonuses and are a key way to score points. Gather Resources: Throughout the game, you’ll need resources to build structures and expand your territory. Resources come from your structures and special abilities of your faction. Make sure to balance your resource production and consumption to avoid running out of essential materials. Score Points and Advance: The game features several rounds, and at the end of each round, players score points based on the number and types of structures they have built, their position on the power tracks, and their control of the map. The key to winning is maximizing your points by the game’s end while preventing opponents from gaining an edge. Endgame: The game ends after the final round, and players tally their points based on various factors, including building cities, terraforming, controlling regions, and upgrading their factions’ powers. The player with the most points wins the game.
