Greenlight Kids & Teen Banking App User Guide
Welcome to the Greenlight app! This guide will help you and your family get started with the app, manage money wisely, and take full advantage of Greenlight’s features to build financial literacy.
Getting Started
Download and Install: Download the Greenlight Kids & Teen Banking app from your device’s app store.
Sign Up or Log In:
For Parents: If you’re new to Greenlight, sign up by providing your personal details, including your name, email, and phone number. You’ll also need to link your bank account to fund your child’s Greenlight account.
For Kids and Teens: After the parent sets up the account, kids and teens can log in using the credentials provided by their parent.
Activate Your Greenlight Card:
Once you receive your Greenlight debit card in the mail, activate it in the app by entering the card number and following the on-screen instructions.
Managing Money
Sending and Receiving Money:
Instant Transfers: Parents can instantly send money to their child’s account directly from the app. Simply tap on the child’s profile, enter the amount, and confirm the transfer.
Direct Deposit for Teens: Teens with part-time jobs can set up direct deposit so their paychecks go directly into their Greenlight account.
Setting Savings Goals:
Help your child set specific savings goals in the app. They can track their progress and earn up to 5% in rewards on their savings, depending on your chosen plan.
Tap on "Savings" in your child’s profile, enter a goal amount, and let them start saving towards it.
Tracking Allowances and Chores:
Automated Allowances: Set up automatic allowances to be paid on a regular schedule. Go to the "Allowances" section, choose the amount, frequency, and assign it to your child’s account.
Chore Management: Assign chores to your child with specific payouts. Once they complete a chore, they can mark it as done in the app, and you can approve the payment.
Investing for Kids and Teens
Parental Approval Required:
If your child is interested in investing, you can approve their requests to buy stocks or ETFs. Go to the "Invest" section, review their request, and approve or decline it.
Greenlight also provides educational resources to help kids learn the basics of investing.
Investing Directly:
Once approved, your child can invest directly in stocks or ETFs through the app. They can monitor their investments and learn how the market works over time.
Monitoring and Controls
Real-Time Spending Notifications:
Receive instant notifications on your phone whenever your child makes a purchase with their Greenlight debit card. This helps you keep track of their spending in real time.
Set Spending Limits:
Control how much your child can spend by setting daily or weekly spending limits. Go to the "Spend" section in your child’s profile, choose the category (e.g., groceries, entertainment), and set the limit.
Safety Features
Location Sharing and SOS Alerts (Available in Greenlight Infinity Plan):
Enable location sharing so you can see where your child is at any time. Set up SOS alerts that your child can activate in case of an emergency.
Access these features by going to the "Safety" section in the app.
Card Security:
If the Greenlight card is lost or stolen, you can instantly lock the card from the app to prevent unauthorized transactions. Unlock the card easily when it’s found.
Educational Tools
Level Up™ Money Game:
Encourage your child to play the Level Up™ game within the app to boost their financial literacy. The game covers various money management topics in a fun and interactive way.
Customer Support
24/7 Support:
If you have any questions or need help, visit the "Help" section in the app to access FAQs, chat with a support representative, or call customer service. Support is available 24/7.
Logging Out
To log out, tap on the profile icon or the settings menu, and select Log Out. Ensure you log out after each session to keep your account secure.
